Your Name: Ryne Stefankiewicz

Your story format for this assignment:

__X__ Live Tweet (follow up story)

_____ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)

_____Video

____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

To go to the weekly nebraska press conference on Monday. Football coach Bo Pelini and volleyball coach John Cook speak, followed by a few football players. I will tweet quotes and newsworthy soundbites from the players and coaches regarding the upcoming game, which will be Iowa.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

This story is best told by using Twitter because it is a press conference, therefore it is good for quick little quotes/updates.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I will take a photo of one of the players or Bo at the table with the Nebraska logo in the background.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

The sources will be Coach Cook, Coach Pelini ad the players.

Stefankiewicz pitch — video

Your story format for this assignment:

__xx___ Video

_____ Audio slideshow

____ Live tweet w/ follow-up

Your pitch (in one short paragraph): A day in the life of a Lincoln Stars hockey player.  I will follow a player, depending on who the media relations person suggests, and d a day in the life of that person.  I plan to go at least two days, one for practice and one during a gameday.

Explain why this story is best told using this format. There are tons of visuals involved in hockey and getting ready.  I will shoot during a game and there are lots of shots of him getting ready to, for example putting on his gloves and skates, etc.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific. I will have some — not much — game B-roll.  I will do an interview.  I will also do lots of over-the-shoulder shots so we can see what it is like from the player’s perspective.  I am allowed in the locker room because this is a semi-professional team.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

Jen Morand is the media relations person for the Stars.  She will ideally set me up with a player she feels will be good to talk to.  Then, obviously, the player will be the main and only character seen in the video.

Stefankiewicz — Slideshow pitch

Your story format for this assignment:

___xx__ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph): What goes into the “Pride of All Nebraska’s” pregame and halftime shows.  They practice each morning placing spots.  There will be a lot of opportunities for visuals.  This is timely because we are in the middle of the marching band season.  People only see the band on Saturdays, not knowing what goes on Monday-Friday.  I will talk to a drum major to get my sound bites.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

There are great opportunities for photos with action and lots of visuals with the instruments, flags, twirlers, and Memorial Stadium.  There will also be great natural sound with them playing in the background.  I will go to a Friday morning practice to record the band audio — Friday’s is when the band does pregame, which is what most fans know.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I will go to a morning practice and shoot them in their street clothes doing practice.  I will also shoot on a gameday in order to get them in their uniforms for the end of the slideshow.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

Anthony Falcone, who is the Associate Director of Bands in order to get into a morning run-through. I will let drum majors Tommy Krueger and Joan Halouska tell the story, though.  I may only use one.

Your pitch (in one short paragraph): What kind of construction can be done to Memorial Stadium during the season, since there are fans in and out of the stadium every couple of weeks.  The crane still moves, but what is it doing, since everything is fenced off so it is safe for fans on game days?  Can they do more now that there is a three-week hiatus between home games?  What do they hope to have finished by the time the ground freezes in 2 months?

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

There aren’t a ton of visuals, because not much appears to be moving right now, so video wouldn’t work, neither would an audio slideshow.  There will be plenty of figures and dates, which may work well in an info graphic.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I want to do one info graphic as a timeline, what is done now, what they want to be done by the time the ground freezes, what they plan to get done over the winter.  I also will shoot images of the construction site, and try to get them lifting sometrhing, or pouring concrete.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

John Ingram is the Assoc. AD for Capital Planning and Construction.  He will be able to tell me the name of the company that is doing the construction so I can hopefully talk to the project manager.  Also Butch Hug, who is the Assistant AD for Events and Facilities.
